Cubic weight was 210 pounds and the actual weight was 240 so it went by
actual.

Mike,
24" x 24" x 96" is about the size of a LOM 900 that has been "broken
down" and crated for shipping. (Z-axis carriage removed & placed
between longitudinal rails, legs, if included, disassembled and stowed
as well; all well secured inside the crate to prevent movement.)
The operative question is: "How much did the package weigh that you
shipped via *Forward Air*"?
Or did weight matter - and the charge was based on cubic feet of the
crate?
Thanks for the input - hopefully we will get more folks sharing their
shipping experiences with The Group.

I use a company called Forward Air
<http://www.forwardair.com/locations/falocations.htm>. For me to
ship a package that is 24X24X96 from Oklahoma to Washington, it
would cost $100. It's a great price but the only catch is you
would have to take it to their terminal and would need to be
picked up at their terminal. To compare the pick-up and drop off
charges, it's $480.00 from door to door. So a little road time
would pay off.

*Subject:* Shipping items - small or LARGE - info
Hello all,
Over a year ago, I initiated a post here asking if anyone had
experience with shipping items cross-country (large, bulky and or
heavy things - like Legacy Ornamental Mills or their components.
I figured with as many posts about Mills for sale around the
country, several members would have either shipped one themselves
or had one or more shipped to them. I sought input/advice on
how they went for them - like who they used, how much it cost,
and pitfalls to avoid. Joe, of NY was kind enough to provide
some info - still waiting for others to share their experiences.
In the meantime, I have a bit of info on the topic to share:
1. I get almost daily "Tech Tips & More" from Kim Komando (an
Uber-Geek). One of her tips had to do with shipping large and or
unusual things. She provided a link to a site that "specializes"
in such matters. Here is a link to her article that describes the
website - as well as a link to the company's website. You will
find it useful if you ship things (in or out bound).
http://www.komando.com/coolsites/index.aspx?id=15905&utm_medium=nl&utm_source=tvkim&utm_content=2014-01-21-fifl-asd-cta
2. When you hear "Greyhound" what do you think? A "college
days" bus trip across country? That was my impression. I found
out they are a LOT more. Check out this link:
http://www.shipgreyhound.com/e/pages/Home.aspx
And this is from their FAQs:
*What are your package weight and size restrictions?*
The maximum weight per package is 100 pounds.
The maximum dimensions that we can accommodate are 30" L x 47" W
x 82" H.
Here is more info that I have found out about shipping by
Greyhound: Input your Zip code to find the Greyhound facilities
near you.
They have two kinds of "terminals" - one that will accept
packages for Outbound shipments. And the second kind will accept
packages for Outbound shipment AND will also receive Inbound
Greyhound shipments. (These facilities have the capability to
receive and store your arriving package until you can come pick
it up from them.) And actually, for an additional fee, you can
have the package delivered to you - at home or office.
In any case, whether you choose to use ShipHawk or Greyhound, I
hope that you folks find the above info useful. If you do use
(or have used) either of the above - please share your
experiences with the group.
Thank you.
