just got off the phone from legacy...ordered a complete drive gear set and
some other gears...have to say there were no issues...very nice
conversation with cindy, who handles anything involving the older
machines...some info that i'll pass along, but perhaps a large amount of
the members here already know...had it in the back of my mind that maybe,
in a far off corner of their warehouse, there might be a selection off
miscellaneous parts scattered about...even considered making a pilgrimage
to utah to visit the factory and check myself...well i can put that fantasy
to rest, as it was verified that there are no parts whatsoever left over,
that pertain to the older mills...not a support riser(they referred to them
as legs),not a stripped down tail or head stock, not a
bracket,gusset,cam,brace,etc.,etc....there is nothing to be had except
split nuts and some gears...so i guess these machines now fall into the
category as an old oliver 260-D table saw does(or any older oliver
woodworking piece of machinery, for that matter)...they are dinosaurs...so
it seems any parts anyone might need will have to come from self
fabrication or finding secondary machines as parts machines...not totally
surprised to this happening, just how quickly it happened...but it is a
reality that a dedicated, older legacy owner will have to deal with...also
went to the woodworking show this past weekend...tracy was there doing
seminars and whatnot...had a short conversation with him, which was very
cordial and quick to the point...met a few older legacy owners and was a
bit surprised that none of them knew of this group...all had similar gripes
about not being able to get certain parts or accessories...gave them the
contact info for the group and told them to make a connection or check
ebay(rare as that might be)...then i asked if any of them were interested
in selling their mill, which no one was willing to do...LOL...but a small
market could open up here for someone to get aggressive, buy mills and part
them out...most likely will not make a lot money but you can possibly get
what you might need and recover expenses on the sale of some parts...i
might think a dedicated "buy and sell" section to the group could be
helpful...is this possible?...anyway, just some random thoughts...joe
