Thanks Mac

I know you can teach middle age dogs new tricks, its the old ones I worry about
but at 72 I still myself as young, OK then middle-aged! No need to bother
commenting Bill, from down under.

Cheers

Euro Roger

I see/now understand. Since the piece being milled is not spinning fast, as it
does in a lathe, that square cone does not have to be very robust. The Nova
Chuck or other regular lathe chucks, that are subject to much higher RPM, are
"heavy duty" by comparison. (Euro Roger - did you note my use of RPM? I paid
attention to your comments about that abbreviation; proof that you can teach a
middle-aged dog new tricks.)
Thanks again, Joe.
Mac

hey mac!...i would bet that the square, cone set up was conceived because this
piece was originally marketed towards people who had little to no experience
doing any kind of turning work...all you had to do was cut a piece of wood
square, put it into the cone and it would be automatically centered and ready
to be worked on...and you would also need minimal pressure from the tail stock,
which is a very good thing since the entire piece is not very well made...that
piece on the end is actually well designed for what it needs to do...first, it
is easily removable so you can strike it into your work piece with a hammer
before setting things up...second, the pins have a unique pattern so if you
need to remove the piece, it would go back to it's original starting
position...kind of like a self indexer idea that legacy has with it's drive
plates...anyway, back in the mid-80's i used this router crafter quite a bit
with excellent results...but only for milling, not turning...but much like a
legacy, you need to play with it for a bit to work out all the nuances of the
mill...joe
