I for one find these machines very interesting we can learn a lot from the old
masters of the past

Subject: Re: a brief history of early ornamental mills

here is the antique machine that i have and a page from the manufacturer's
catalog...although this machine is an updated version of my machine...this
machine was also made at the turn of the century and as you can see, is
somewhat similar as the previous machine posted...moving bed, stationary cutter
in center, template following(bed pivots on pins in center of machine), tilting
cutter head, etc., etc.

these two machines are the first mass produced, twist or ornamental lathes made
in the united states, i believe...both went out around the depression is my
understanding and no other american manufacturer ever made a twist lathe after
these two until legacy came along, i believe( not counting the sears router
crafter!...LOL!)...so legacy is in a select group as far as their older pieces
of equipment go...the cnc stuff i would not throw into the mix as there are
numerous companies making cnc turning/milling type machines...anyway, just some
fun stuff to post on a hot, boring summer day at work...hope you all enjoy it
and i will occasionally add to this topic as time permits...thanks for the
read...joe
