That's an interesting solution. Is the nut a quick move type and the set
screws lock it in?

Subject: Z Axis Upgrade depth stop modification

Greetings, finally got the courage to install the Z Axis upgrade carriage and
router, only to discover what many have found and that is the depth stop knob
on this upgrade fails you. Searching this topic on this site, (thanks to all
of you who contribute here) I found some great tips to improve this upgrade.
Here's another step I took to give me more control of setting the depth on this
upgrade, so far it has worked well. I purchased a used drill press depth rod
on e-bay, (ten dollars) installed it in the carriage base, inline with the
factory slot opening that held the Legacy knob stop. Then I installed a nut and
bolt through the vernier bracket, (two nuts are needed to hold the bolt fast, a
jam nut on side of the vernier bracket and a stop nut on the other side), then
adjust the length of the bolt so the head of it just clears the drill press
depth rod. Here's a couple of pics, hope they come across well.
