Electric power to the Tape recorder.
A good many years ago I had a Grundig Tape recorder . I was on a Tanker
about 1957 with the name of Steens Mountain It was built in the U.S. Had
the 60 cycle elect. supply----------- to make my Recorder play the songs
that were on it I had to change it back to 50 cycles. Whilst connecting it
all up ( *Me not knowing what I was doing *) the cabin door burst open and
the ships electrician , shouted b------y Hell I have got red lights
flashing down in the engine room, *Not a happy chappie !*! The ship did not
catch fire------------- Later on after I left it , it was Renamed Mary
Ellen Conway, but did catch fire down in Mexico, and the Tug that
pulled it away from the dockside caught fire as well. That was the end of
her.
It was equipped with what I think was called Degausing gear -------Thick
copper cables all round it to repel magnetic mines during second word war
Happy days, and I am better with electicity now.!!!
