Hello Everyone. As you all know, I am always looking at new turning materials,
I made a posting a week ago on turning bone.
Dose anyone have any info on this topic?  I have done a pretty large search on
this topic as of late. but honestly I have not found much.
The outer part of the bone is all that is used. As for a leg bone,( the
thickest bone) the edges can get somewhere just over 1/4" for thickness.
Knife makers use what is called Scales, they are basically the bone cut in
half, and then sanded down to 1/4" to make the handles on knifes. Where
turners, So what I have found out so far, cut disks out of the bone and then
glue these disk together to make turning blanks, for small boxesand other
ornaments/ details.  Bone can look like ivory. and its a neat materiel to work
with.   The Router/ Legacy cuts bone very nicely. and its something that I
would like to playaround with more in the future.
What I am asking everyone,is INFO. on this topic. what kind of glue works best
for glue ups?  stuff like that.I've also been looking up where to buy bone. and
how to process it. Old bones work best. sorta like green vs dried wood. each
has its own advantages...
So far I've been buying dog chew toys/ bones for dog... the newer the bone the
wetter the marrow, (messy!)and Hydrogen-peroxide will whiten the bone with out
weakening the bone. Boiling is not good, and bleach is also not a good practice
due these process bothweaken the bone.
Any ideas. or thoughts on this topic.I would be great-full for.
Have a great day.
C.A.G.

P.S. I am working a double shift, today and this weekend, so I will not be in
contact until late Sunday.
More latter.
