The Society of Ornamental Turners (SOT) are well aware of the use of rose engines as applied to pottery.The rose engine as used at the Wedgewood factory at Barlaston has been studied by various SOT members and published in the SOT Bulletin. There are other early instances of the use of ornamental lathes in pottery but the Wedgewood lathe is the best known. SOT members use a wide range of techniques (OT lathes, rose engines, brocading, medallion, etc.) to produce their work in a wide range of materials (wood, metals, natural materials, plastic, etc.).
