Legacy for some reason stopped making Legacy's with removeable tailstock adaptors. The tailstock can be modified to hole a MT2 adaptor, but it will take some machining on a steel lathe to make it work. Here is a photo of mine. What you see in the photos is a MT2 adaptor with a hole at the end, the DeStayCo clamp male adaptor is just held in place with a set screw. the plastic bushing and clamp are the only things that hold it in place. Another approach is one of our members (Joe) bought a amazon tail stock. (something like this one , https://www.amazon.com/Tailstock-Woodworking-Engraving-Milling-Machine/dp/B07RRG2YFK/ref=sr_1_38?crid=3DX2G6NS62BPF <https://www.amazon.com/Tailstock-Woodworking-Engraving-Milling-Machine/dp/B07RRG2YFK/ref=sr_1_38?crid=3DX2G6NS62BPF&keywords=lathe+tailstock&qid=1638151454&sprefix=lathe+tail%2Caps%2C193&sr=8-38> &keywords=lathe+tailstock&qid=1638151454&sprefix=lathe+tail%2Caps%2C193&sr=8-38 and re-worked his Legacy using it.) A third (no name.) just made a live center and mounted it over the Legacy's dead center. Or do as I did on my Pedal lathe. I ground down the dead center, and tapped it 1/2 24(? fine threads) and mounted a Shop Smith live center on the threaded shaft. When there is a will, There is Always a way! Have a good night. C.A.G. Lol Even with my limited use, a live center is definitely an upgrade I see a need for on the Legacy. I will have to check compatibility with the shopsmith I have. I use that as a lathe from time to time but mainly just pens. I definitely wish I had joined this group moons ago. It will take some slight modifications, like removing your tailstock on the legacy and using some time of object to hold the end of your stock. I small hole in the wall in my garage did it first, to hold my live center. Then latter I extended my rails. Mike added another lathe tail stock to his Wood Chuck. I think I saw some snow coming down today. I have a goal of being able to do 8’ posts in the future (not on my stock 900) but a 15’ post must be a sight to behold and a real bear to move around. I am not familiar with the previous generation models and their compatibility with the newer manual / driven mills. I am not sure what generation to call these since Legacy improved something it seemed almost every year for a while and came out with yet another model / package to offer. I'm with you on the smell of burnt ............ I don't like it at all. Air exchange as well as a good filtered mask is a must. The Wood Chuck in the picture has one very important mod that was made by the owner. He took the 1 X 2 steel rail off the front and replaced it with a 2 X 2 That I am sure helped with a lot of the sway that would turn up in the big bladed cuts. The next model after the wood chuck was the Steely as we call them. They used square galvanized tubes to add strength. I still use my Woodchuck because I can do a lot more in the way of modifications when the center points are raised and not trapped between rails. I have done 15 foot posts and table bases with a diameter of 25" All the way down to roping a tooth pick. Thanks in advance to everyone for sharing offering your experiences and helpful tips that a user group like this provides. To add a little input to the recent group conversations Bone Turning, I have turned some deer antler pens upon request which were well seasoned (dry) but there was a distinct smell like burnt skin / fingernail during the process. They came out well but it is not a medium I prefer to focus on. Lookout for used mills: I am always on the lookout for parts and accessories for my mill as I am sure most of you are. I do not need another (at least that what I have to keep telling myself) but in my searching, I did bump into this one if anyone wants to expand their capability.
