For decades I've wanted an LOM to be able to do precise work like this. Osage orange is notoriously difficult to machine cleanly either by hand or under power. So the challenge is tall. I'm really impressed with the clean accuracy of this process. I'm using a 1/2" upcut spiral bit in the router. Starting with 1 3/8" x 7 3/4" octagon blanks cut on table saw, there is still a lot of material for a router to remove, especially on first facet. It takes two passes per facet, the second being a "cleanup" pass to be sure the template was followed. I have no motor driven feeds, just hand cranks. The first one took almost 30 minutes from bench to bench, but repetition without shortcuts has reduced the time to about 10 minutes average.
