I wonder, Curt, if a furniture design book "By Hand And Eye"
<https://lostartpress.com/products/by-hand-eye-1> would be helpful.
Mr. Walker talks at length about proportions, which ones are pleasing, and
how to come by them. I've found it useful in creative design work of all
sorts,
not just the furniture he talks about. One of the useful gadgets in
planning
design layout is a sector, a tool you can make or buy at a cost of up to
$600
for an ancient ivory one! Several pairs of dividers including a
proportional
divider and a sector complete the tool set he uses for "awakening the eye"
(chap 2). It has caused me to look at the world differently and appreciate
the masterful designs surrounding us AND understand why they are attractive.
