This would make sense as the trapezoid profile would push the screw out of engagement with a load. If I had access to a lathe I would make a thread chaser tool to rework the profile of my half nuts made with the standard acme tap Anybody got a piece of lead screw floating around? Not sure where the machine came from, as it is far older than anyone here knows about but since we have the owners manual and stuff I am thinking it was purchased new. I don’t believe anyone would have changed out the lead screws and I am pretty sure they have a square profile. I will double check it when I go back in Wednesday. I am going to reach out to Legacy to see if they can shed any light on it. I am also going to put a notice on this board to see if someone had a piece of lead screw on hand. The lead screw has square thread form, like a buttress thread. I am going to consult my Machinery Handbook to find what is needed. But the difference between the two profiles is preventing the half nuts I had made from fully engaging. Diameters and lead are correct. When I obtain the proper tap, I should be able to rethread my current blocks and be good to go. BTW there is no reason these half nuts couldn’t be made from hard maple.
