Yea the crystals are cheap and reusable, every summer I thinly spread them out on a big metal tray I have and the hot Australian sun dries them
Out again, then I bag them up to use again. I totally bury the wood in the crystals sometimes wrapping cling wrap around the ends of the wood to slow the drying from the ends which as you know where the crack start from. This is my method is for log type wood cut strait from the tree. Wood here fresh cut you only have an hour or so before the ends start to get those hair line cracks so minutes after cutting I wrap and tape the ends in the cling wrap leaving the moister to be dawn out by the crystals through the bark.
