Judie,
In the so-called "Marriage Information" box, you can select at the bottom the designation of each partner. Simply Change "Husband" to "Partner 1" and "Wife" to "Partner 2". You can also edit the way certain words look in reports in the same dialogue.

Or have I misunderstood your problem?
