Hi Rob, I like what you do, up to a point. You have to remember that the RIN#s for folks can change when you do file maintenance, rebuild from a backup, etc so they are really not safe to use as a permanent reference. The good news is that Legacy allows you to copy the RIN#s into the ID field and that will remain permanent, although someday you may find that a person's RIN and ID are different.

My question has to do with they way people are naming the scans of documents for use in Legacy. Are people using their ancestor's correct name, or the actual name on the document? I have been using the actual name on the document (although I am using their full correct name on their folder). So for my gr-gr-grandfather I would have: #269 NEIL PATTERSON MacDougall (folder name) #269 MacDougall, Neal - 1841 Scotland Census.jpg #269 MacDougald, Niel - 1851 Scotland Census.jpg #269 MacDougall, Neil P - death record.jpg Notice the name on each document is different. Using the RIN# first keeps things together, and using the actual name keeps the different variations to the forefront of my brain. I would be very interested in what experience users are doing. Thanks again everyone!
