HI
I am new to Legacy and I've purchased the manual as well. I've used
Generations for eons, and this was the closest thing out there. BUT, I am
having the same source problems. I made a ged.com of a very large file,
containing over 120000 relatives of varying degrees, For 90% of them, there
were 617 sources.

Once I imported it into Legacy, all seemed fine, except I was used to being
able to see the sources as I went along. When I started looking for my
sources, they are there, but the master list only has the word "Source" for
about 610 of them. IF I go and open it up and click on the detail, the
information is there. But, doing that 617 times is not going to be time
saving. Any ideas how to get the sources to go back where they belong, so
that the title of a book, the vol and page of a Will Book, or the page of a
census shows?

I've deleted the first attempt, and tried it a second time, thinking it was
a fluke. Apparently either I need to redo the sources in the Generations
before it's imported, or redo each one of these in Legacy. I've tried
resetting some of them in the newer Legacy file and saving them to a "new
Master list as instructed (I think) without success. They still show as
"source".

I've looked through some of the archived questions, but I'm not finding
answers there either. I'm missing something.

Any ideas from people more familiar with this program than I am? The manual
isn't that helpful. It's fine, as is the video, for new sources. It's the
600 plus that have been imported that area a problem.

Thanks in advance

Hi Pat,

You are right. You can't sort by author and that is the bibliographic
standard.
But Legacy currently doesn't produce a Bibliography.

If you want to sort by author you could start your Source List Name
with the Author. The Source List Name if for your convenience to sort
the list as you prefer. It doesn't usually print (There is an Option
in Options > Customise if you want to include it).

For genealogy I don't usually think of a source by author but short
title (like 1871 Census) so it's not something I'd do.
