Thanks. I intend to add an event but first I needed to find out what had been entered in the medical notes because that is where Legacy had placed the imported gedcom's cause of death field.

I may end up using the event for medical information rather than the notes-medical field. I never even discovered these Medical notes till I looked for where Legacy had placed the causes of death it found in the gedcom I imported and discovered it was 'buried' under the Medical tab of the person notes. I would have preferred it - as it was in my previous genealogy program - more accessible: as a simple field on the 'Individual Information' screen, right under date and place of death. It's too many steps and too inconvenient for me to find it where Legacy now has it.

Hi Jeff,
To find individuals for people with data in a particular field try
Search - Notes - Medical - not equal to - <blank - ie don't enter anything>

For particular medical conditions that appear to run through the family, I enter an Event for that condition. You can then use Show List for the event to get your list.

Some ideas,

One aspect of genealogy is medical genealogy where one can follow the presence or absence of certain hereditary medical conditions (diabetes, etc.) through families. So it would be useful to be able to look and see what medical conditions had been entered in Legacy.

It would therefore be helpful to have a "master list" for medical conditions or a way to search for them as a group. The search module permits you to search for a specific condition or a wildcard that continues a letter or more, but there seems to be no way to generate a list of all medical conditions that have been entered. I tried searching for Individual\Notes-Medical\Wildcard\* but that resulted in a list of everyone in the database whether they had something in their medical notes or not.

So, unless someone knows another way to do this, a suggestion would be for Legacy to have either a master list for medical conditions or the ability to search for "non-blank" (that is fields that contain some data).
