Thanks. Makes sense and simple enough.

I do something similarly and my system was the topic of a column in
Legacy News.
The number assigned is the sequential number in which it is added into
my file box and added to Legacy as the File ID in the Source Detail. It
may not necessarily be the sequence in which it has been found; just the
sequence in which it is filed.

Thank you. That makes sense.
Question: Besides category, what determines the numbers assigned
(...001,
...002, etc)? Just the sequence in which they happen to be discovered,
or
some other system?

Hi Jeff,
It's not Clooz you need (in my opinion) but the method of organising
paper
documents before you enter them into Clooz.
When you enter stuff in Clooz, everything has an ID code/number. You
have
to assign that to the pieces of paper.
The suggestion is to divide your paper into types - like Census
records (I
have photocopies from the days when you read census films rather than
downloaded images from the internet), Birth Certificates, Family trees
(from others), Wills, etc.
Each type gets a code and then each document in that type has an ID
made
up of the code plus sequential number
eg: BIR001, WILL010
I check that all the information is entered into Legacy as I file and
enter the code/number in the Legacy source file ID. I rarely have to
go
back and look at the paper. Some would scan at the same time.

You are quite right - we need to make sure our research papers are
organised in some fashion - a great message for the New Year.
You'll find several methods listed in the Legacy News.
Personally, I can't cope with any method that requires copying or
cross-referencing. I found I simply put such papers in a pile to
"file
later" and later never came.
Ah! Glad to know I am not the only one that happens to!!
I file by document type as advocated by the maker of Clooz -
Elizabeth
? -
it's the only useful thing I got from Clooz. My "file later" pile
simply
disappeared.
Which is the Clooz method you use? I thought Clooz (which I have not
used)
was about document templates and filing within a PC, not paper
documents.
How do you use it to file your paper documents, or did I
misunderstand?
Looks like I need it <grin>
The number of the document goes in the relevant place in Legacy.
I can always find what I want very quickly - but my files are not
ready
made show books.
