You are correct in saying "that the relationships listed above each person *do* appear automatically as each new person is entered", but try this: Create a new "island" family with husband H, wife W, son S, and daughter D. Now go to any "End of line ancestor" and add a parent bt linking to son S, that is make S a new ancestor. S will be identified as GG...father but H, W and D will not be marked as related.
