In Legacy (I have the Deluxe version, so not sure if this is an option in standard), go to "Search" and one of the options from the drop-down menu is "Search IGI website". When you click on it, you end up at a really useful feature of Legacy, which can even search for every person in your database in IGI...all from within Legacy.

Other websites I have seen do not allow (apparently) preloading either, so it may be an industry standard. I have also noticed that I cannot find a place on IGI to search on an AFN. This is my guess.
