Debbie,

Yes, that's perfectly clear and you may well be right in your interpretation of Ruth's enquiry.

Your last paragraph though gives a very good, and in my view overiding, reason as to why this is so.

I don't think Ruth is talking about duplicate lines. I think what she
is saying is that in a Descendant Report, a couple is listed, say in
the First Generation, and then their children are listed. For each
child of the couple, the report gives the date & place of birth, date
& place of death and burial date & place (if filled in). Then, under
Second Generation, this information is repeated again. It is
redundant and I don't like the way it is repeated, either. I think
what Ruth would like to do is just have the report print the names of
the children and possibly a date range for birth and death such as
1800-1860 for each child when listed under their parents in the First
Generation, then have the more detailed information of date & place of
birth and death, place of burial, etc. print under each child's name
when they are repeated in the Second Generation. Hope I have
explained this where you can understand. It's hard to explain.

I realize that the reason the report gives the childrens' information
under their parents is that they are not repeated in the Second
Generation if they were not married or did not have children if that
is chosen on the "Include Main Entries For" check boxes on the options
under a Descendant Report.

Ruth, if I'm off base here, let me know.

Ruth,

Under Report Options>Format you can check "don't repeat duplicate lines". I
suspect from what you say that it may delete the wrong ones for you.
