Sometimes it's a matter of attitude. Attitudes in general today are
so rude that one assumes the worst. Sherry's attempt to explain the
acronym included a word which, while not vulgar per se, struck some of
us as out of character and therefore somewhat shocking.

Another blow up from the politically correctness police. RTFM has been
around since the punched card days... and it meant back then, and is still
taught in university classes to mean "Read the FRIENDLY Manual." It wasn't

play. Back in the old days when we actually had to write manuals that came
with the software we were driven to make them friendly... hence the term
"user friendly". The term "Friendly Manual" has been an industry term for
as long as I can remember.

Using your logic one can offended by your e-mail address... after all it
starts with MF which can be interpreted in many fantastic ways. Stay off of
the Diabetic groups... every other message discusses BS. In fact you'll
probably see more BS there than anywhere else on earth. Of course the
diabetic lists obsess over improving their "Blood Sugar".

Bottom line... not everything is as it seems... and if you get bent out of
shape over someone typing RTFM then you need to really look into why your
mind is "gutter wandering" in the first place.

Hi David,

I'm responding only to you. I, for one, do not appreciate the use of words
such as "f...." There are so many wonderful, descriptive words in the
English language that are also meaningful. The use of such "gutter"
language does nothing to improve the meaning mostly because of the frequency
of its use. In other words, read the manual says as much as read the "f..."
manual. The additional word does nothing to improve the meaning. But this
is my opinion. Others on this list, however, may also share my opinion--and
some likely share yours. Please do not assume everyone thinks it is
"polite" language.

Thanks for letting me share with you.
