Probably because she doesn't know much about computers and relies on her sil
to do stuff for her unless I go up to her house and do it myself.
She doesn't really need spybot anyway  because our ISP provides a free
spam/adware/virus package as part of our fee, she didn't know about it, so I
advised her to uninstall her regular protection and download this one.

The current version of Spybot is not throwing up the false positive.
Your friend can continue to use Spybot, so long as he/she updates Spybot.
You should check for updates before scanning your computer.

It sounds like she reinstalled Legacy and then ran Spybot with the 
old definitions again before she tried to open Legacy again.
