Probably because she doesn't know much about computers and relies on her sil to do stuff for her unless I go up to her house and do it myself. She doesn't really need spybot anyway because our ISP provides a free spam/adware/virus package as part of our fee, she didn't know about it, so I advised her to uninstall her regular protection and download this one.

Your friend can continue to use Spybot, so long as he/she updates Spybot. You should check for updates before scanning your computer.
