Ron and Susan,
Thanks so much. The data was indeed intact. I have downloaded 6.0, and
opened my file, and looked at one of the more recent things that I was
working on - it is there.
I have been very lucky. Confirmed backer-up, I - from now on! I have always
done it pretty often. I would have lost three days at most. But three days
is discouraging, if you were actively working.
Again, thanks. All is well.
Janis

Janis, as you now know one should back-up at least daily!
You do not say what data has been salvaged, although you obviously have
your old backip zip file, nor do you say what you are reading on your lap
top. Are you restoring the back up? If you have a look at the
C:\Legacy\Data\ folder is your ".fdb" file still there? If so you have
been even more lucky and you can simply load it as normal into the Legacy
program.
If you upgrade to Version 6 then you will have to pay if you wish to have
the delux version, or you can download version 5 and retain your current
delux without further payment. Yes, your files will run fine on Version 6
but once having done so they will not run on version 5.

Subject: [LegacyUG] computer crash and reinstall question
Date: Mon, 28 May 2007 05:59:48 -0700
I (being the collective - my computer and I!) contracted a virus which
disabled the boot process on my computer. The data from my hard disk has
been salvaged.
I had not backed up for four or five days. Before using the back-up file,
I wondered if I can locate my full legacy data, including the four or five
additional days. I am viewing my hard disk data through a little device
that allows me to usb it into my new laptop.
I had not upgraded to Legacy 6.0 - was using Legacy deluxe in a previous
version. Is there a way for me to tell exactly which version I was using?
Or should I download 6.0, and expect my data to read properly?
Thanks to anyone who can assist me with this problem.
Janis
