In Outlook, select an email in the list of emails (with from, date, subject etc) and right click. The last item is "Options". Click that and you see the full header at the bottom of the window that opened, marked internet headers. Scroll down until you find the X-Mailer line. That is how it is with Office 2003, so maybe slightly different in later versions.

You can't tell from that shortened header, which is why you're confused about this. It is the *full* headers where you find that information. I can see from the full headers of your post this line: X-Mailer: Microsoft Office Outlook 11 ... so I know that you're using Outlook (version 11?) to "do" your emails. Can you see in the headers of this post what I'm using? I'm not sure how you do that in Outlook, but there should be an option in the menu to do that. In Outlook Express ("OE", which is a different program to Outlook, but also by Microsoft) it is File > Properties from the menu, or <Alt><Enter> from the keyboard, then click on the Details tab to view the full headers. In Thunderbird (the program I'm using), it is View > Message Source or <Ctrl><U>. Each program has its own way of doing things. "What is x-mailer?" I have no idea, LOL!!! I wouldn't stress over it if I were you. Just know that in the headers of an email that you have received, it is indicating what program was used to send that particular email. I don't think you need to worry about all this much at all. You know what you're using to do your emails, and it isn't often you need to take a look to see what program someone else has used to send one to you - I only use it when I'm trying to help someone else with a problem, usually so I can give specific information for that particular program if I can. "when I reply to this or any other e-mail from the mailing group, am I replying in plain text because your e-mail is plain test or must I attempt to reformat each reply as I send one?" Your post came through in plain text. I don't know if that is because the post to which you were replying was in plain text, or if you've got it set that mail to the list address is to be sent in plain text. You should be able to set that somewhere, possibly in the Address Book entry for the LUG addy, as that's where you do it in OE. Hope this helps. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Howard -- Kaiwaka, Northland, New Zealand http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~wendyh65/ <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ewendyh65/> Have you unlocked the real power of Legacy?
