Kirsten,

Yes they will be deleted.  One way to keep them:  create a new individual
(un-linked) with a funny name that you will remember.  Then create events
and add these locations to the event location.  One event will be needed for
each location.

I have several locations in the Master Location List where I've added notes
about when names changed or they were absorbed by some other colony, etc.
These locations are not necessarily used for any individual in my database.
If I "purge unused" will these be wiped out even if they have notes
attached?  (I should have experimented with this before I got fancy and put
in all those notes.)  I suppose a work-around would be to assign them to a
phantom individual, but perhaps that's not the best way to handle it.
Suggestions please.
