For any item that is questionable, I add a "#" to the entry. It adds only
one character to the entry and all the similar items (city, etc) still
sort together, with the verified items in one group and the questionable
items in another group. For the Location example, it would be
Bridgeport#, Plymouth Colony. Since there are no spaces, there is no
confusion about which item the tag is associated with.

I also use the # when there is any question about the content of a digital
image (remember that Windows won't let you use a "?" in a file name):
SmithJohn_age4#.jpg
SmithJohn_SmithMary_SmithAlbert#.jpg
Memphis_WhiteStreet_looking_West_1957#.jpg

Using the Windows search capability, I can quickly find all images with
uncertain data.

I'm sure there are other short (in number of characters) solutions...

John
