In my case I use group pictures for events. So group pic taken at a family reunion is attached to an Event of "Reunion", which is attached to the people at the event. For individuals I either trim to a head shot or use the group for one person's event such as "Harry's graduation" or Mary & John's wedding.
Group shots come out with each face pretty small in reports, so a reunion shot is more a symbol of the event than an effort to show who was there. I do name them all in the Picture Notes, though.
