I changed the subject line to reflect the topic
better.
I have found that a key detail can be a tale tale sign
of adoption.
With my exhusband's adoption, he was 17 years old, and
it actually had to be legally done so he could get his
driver's license. He was born in 1974, and back then,
his parents just brought him home from the hospital,
there was no legal paperwork done. He's NEVER seen his
biological mother, only knows her name.
So at the age of 17 they took him and had him legally
adopted. He was issued a bith certificate, and of
course it had his adopted parents' names on it.

BUT, the seal by which it was certified, that was
dated in the year 1991.
Original, unaltered birth certificates are generally
certified within a few months of the birth, or at
least I've found thus far.
Even an issue of a copy of a birth cert shows that it
is a certified COPY. (I had to have my own reissued
after many years of abuse and it fell apart.

Always pay attention to the certification date.
