Pat,
Would you first go to the Gedcom file which you have created and open it in
Notepad and tell us if there is anything in it. This will help establish
whether the fault is on the Export or Import - on the face of it the
procedure seems to be correct.
Assuming you use Legacy defaults throughout installation and Saving the
Gedcom it should be in C:\Legacy\Data.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Gedcom for descendants of one couple -- failure
Date: Sat, 10 Nov 2007 12:09:36 -0500
I am trying to create a .gedcom for one ancestor's descendants.
I opened the Doe family database
I selected the ancestor
I tagged him and all descendants with a Tag 1.
I clicked on:
File
Export to
Gedcom (I didn't choose the Legacy option because I am trying to do this
for someone else for his database.)
The Gedcom Export window appeared, and I clicked on
Record Selection
The Gedcom RecordSelection window appeared, and I clicked on
All records with an individual tag of 1
Close (there is no Save option)
This took me back to the
The Gedcom Export , and I clicked on
Select File Name and START EXPORT
This took me back to the
Export GEDCOM File window, and I didn't want to select an existing
filename
so I created a new file name and clicked
Save
I got a new Message Box saying
"Export of GEDCOM is complete
Individuals: 388
Families: 159" I clicked
OK
In Legacy I clicked
File
Import
Gedcom
This took me to the
Import GEDCOM File window
I chose
"Create a NEW family file and add the GEDCOM info to it (recommended)"
and I clicked on
"Proceed"
This took me to the
Enter a Name for the New Family File window
The Filename in the File name space was
I opened it. It was empty and
I clicked on
File
Import
gedcom
I imported from the
BUT
the resulting file is totally empty.
When I click on Name List there are NO names!
Can someone tell me what I have done wrong??
(Now the Name List is frozen open and I can't close it!)
I have Legacy Deluxe -- not the most recent (Nov) update as it seemed to
be
just for people with Windows Vista and I have XP SvcPack 2
Thanks in advance for any help!!
