Hi Valerie,
Yes you can - but you don't sort it in Legacy.
When you print from the Name List (and I think you've just been doing
that) instead of printing, save as a csv file. This means that the
data for each column is separated with a comma.
Note you'll need to customise it a bit as
Born = Birth Date and Place and you'll want birth date in the one column.
You can open a csv file (Comma Delimited) in a spreadsheet like
Microsoft Excel.
You can also open it in Word where you would need to covert text to table.
In Word it shows up with inverted commas/quote marks around each
element/column data.
Since location fields already have commas in them, you need to do
some Find and Replace work before converting to a table where you can
sort on a column.
1) Find <,"> and replace with <^t> [enter the values between the
angled brackets. ^t is the code for a tab - the ^ is on the 6 key on
my keyboard]
2) Find <"> and replace with <> [that is, replace with nothing - this
gets rid of the rest of the inverted commas]
Then highlight all the text (Ctrl + A) and use Table > Convert Text to Table
Bold the heading row to make it distinctive.
Then you can select a column and sort on that (You may need to opt to
view the Tables Toolbar to make this easy)
I'm interested to see that Word sorts dates correctly even when the
location is part of the same column. Excel of course didn't - you
need the dates in a column by themselves.

Can I create a list that I can then sort ?
What I mean is sort them in date of birth or date of death ?
Yes it is that stupid 70 year old again !
