Hi Leon,
Welcome.
I trust you enjoy your new genealogical hobby. Be warned it can become an addiction :-)

It is normal to enter women with their birth surname/maiden name.

Some enter the married name as an AKA.
I don't bother to do that.

Reports read fine without it. Where the convention exists that a woman takes the surname of her husband on marriage, I believe people can easily deduce what the current name is.

More difficult is the situation where women don't take the surname of their husband. You'll find that the Legacy Calendar Creator assumes married women do take their husband's surname and enter them as such.

The only place I put the current surname is in the Address Name for relatives likely to be at a family reunion. I use this for making Name Tags.

New features for names are in the pipeline but we don't know how long that particular pipe is.

Hi,

I just joined this group. Hopefully my first topic hasn't been discussed to death already.

I've looked through the Legacy website, the program help files and searched the internet looking for information on how maiden names are best handled in Legacy. I didn't find much that directly addressed the topic other than one note that seemed to say this was a weakness with Legacy and most other genealogy software.

What I'm looking for is a general guideline on how to enter data and possibly how to adjust report settings so names will print as 'Jane Smith (nee Jones)' or something similar.

What I have been doing is entering all the names the woman may have been know by in the alias list and selecting the most recent name used, her married name in most cases, as the main name.

I'm new to genealogy and Legacy. The few reports I've printed seemed overly cluttered. I'll have to do some experimenting with customizing reports but resolving this maiden name issue will make it easier to understand the reports.

Thanks,

Leon
