Nina, The speed of a PC is dependent on many factors not just the size of the files. I am getting ready to change mine at the moment for just that reason.
However, although I have some 5000 records in Legacy it is not these which slow mine down but too little memory, with all the other stuff which I have running! I would not imagine that you will notice any difference in speed by merging the two files. There is no point in waiting for version 7 as my guess is that it will take up even more memory that version 6 (but don't let that bother you).
