Oh, well, that's pretty easy.

Basically, it goes like this:

Import one file into the other. Under "File" - Import from. After that:

Click the Merge button, and go to Find Duplicates, then follow all the prompts about backing up your files. On the Merge Options screen it's already got some default options set up. That's fine for now probably. Click Continue on that.

On the Merging Two Individuals screen it will begin to bring up what it thinks are duplicates. If you're sure left and right side are the same person, you can click the items left or right side that you want to keep, go through all the tabs along the top doing the same thing and then click Merge Right into Left Individual. If you're not sure, DO NOT MERGE. What you can do instead at this point is click Options and tag both individuals. Later you can Search those people and see them (probably) side-by-side in the Name List. Over there it might become clearer to you if they're the same person or not, and then you can go back and do a Manual merge.

Also, take note of black button(s) over on the left side of the screen. If you click on one you'll see you have other options. Sometimes you'd like to keep some of the information from one version of the individual although you're mostly choosing the other one.

Anyway, carry on through your Merge screen like this, doing what you can or clicking Skip to Next.

As you're going through, under Options, you can also click on "Not Duplicates" when you're sure about that, so the next time you run a Merge they won't show up.

If you totally blow it you can restore your database to what it was before you started the merge. Under Edit/Undo merge on the main toolbar. You can also (under 'Merge') view the Not Duplicates list, delete everything and start over at any time. Merging is really fun once you get into it. It looks hard until you realize how easy and well-designed it is. I avoided it for a long time and when I finally got into I didn't want to leave. If you only have a handful of people to merge you can also do this through a split screen view dragging one side to the appropriate box on the other. I believe there's a video demonstration of that somewhere at the Legacy site, perhaps under Tips from the Experts.

It's not as hard as it may seem. Do you have many people the same in both files or is there just one point of connection? You only have to merge the common folks. Everything else just flows together.

I have two files, one rather large. I'm wanting to connect the two together into one file.... I've read some of the stuff from the help file on merging, but it's like reading a Mortgage Application.
