You could put in a request or you could use the File ID box for something shorter like numbers instead of phrases.

The method I use for filing and referencing my Source material is probably unique to me and because I am a "lumper" (few Master Sources, many Source Details) each Source documents is referenced in Source Detail File ID. No problems there.

For some of my Sources I have an electronic file as well as a printout. Source Detail File ID always references the paper copy, but I would like to use Master Source File ID to reference the electronic file, where this is appropriate. For example, where my Master Source is "Will", the name of the person whose Will it is in entered in Source Details and the printout of that Will references in SD File ID; in MS File ID I will enter C:\genes\wills which is the folder where all electronic will files are stored.

In some cases, the Master Source is contained within one electronic file, and in that case I want to enter the full filename (with path) into the MS File ID, but I can't always do this because of the limit on length of this field (50 characters, I think.)

Does anyone else find this a problem? There's not much point in me submitting a request for this field to be lengthened if I am the only person in the world who wants it so!
