Why not use Options > Cutomise to copy all the RINs over to User ID at once and then go through using the Name List with Edit tab at the front and add the prefix or suffix to it that you want?

Earlier this week there was a posting regarding ID numbers and RIN's - exactly, how does one go about assigning ID numbers I want to do Initials of the person along with their RIN's IE... RJC1 , BLE2 I went to Options, Customize then other, I found where you can create User ID numbers by having the RIN copied into the field with optional text- My question is how to you get the optional text- do you have to do this for each individual or is there a command that will allow the family data base to just take the name or initials along with the RIN.

The bit you found in Options, Customise only works if you want to add the same text to all RINs to create your UserID. I don't think this is very helpful as I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to do this! (Which is bound to prompt posts from several people saying that is exactly what they do want!)

On the Options, Customise, View tab, under "Display RINS on Names" I have both radio buttons checked, and a check for displaying UserID added to names. When you open an Individual's screen there is a place for entering the UserID and with the above settings, the person's RIN will be displayed at the top of the screen.

Because my UserIDs are a prefix and the RIN, when I am creating a new record I just type my desired prefix into the UserID box and then copy the RIN as shown at the top of the window.
