If the index or transcription is in a book, then you'd select to cite a book. 
If it is in an online database, then you'd select the online database, etc.

I don't have V7 yet, but it seems to me that index and transcription are
two general options that I would pick frequently.  Documenting the index
is important to follow the trail of work accomplished.  Sometimes a
transcription is more readily available (and in my budget) than an original.
