Actually there are now 3 AKAs:
* The "true" AKAs that we put under the AKA button (actually the "Alternate Names" button) * The Marriage - maiden name changed to male's last name that the system generates * The nick-name in quotes in the GIVEN field (ie: William Blake "Bill" Patton)

We might call them 'entered' and 'generated' to differentiate.

To help avoid future confusion: in Legacy 7 there are now two AKAs the one which we all love/loath and the new one for married names of spouses. It might be helpful to say to which one is referring.

Belinda,
I think you can pick the married name thing globally - but each
individual can be set to ignore - so it should work for you. I do not
use the feature since quite some time ago - I put an AKA in for each
married female using their married name. I can include AKA (or not)
as I wish in any list (even under Legacy 6). There are LOTS of neat
things in the new Legacy 7 -- I have spent several weeks trying to
make parts crash - found a few - but most of the bugs are gone!
Enjoy!

I've just finished watching the video online for some of the new features of Legacy 7 and I love the inclusion of the married names in indexes etc which is relevant for the vast majority of marriages in my file. But haven't been
able to download the program yet so I'm not able to check this out for
myself but what I'm wondering is there a solution to or if, not any
suggestions for work arounds for the following.

I like more and more women have retained my maiden name on marriage. What
I'm wondering does the program have a check box or something for each women
that you can tick if name was not changed on marriage (which would then
alter indexes etc) or if not what would LUG members suggest as a work around
for this situation.

Thanks in advance.
