No, ZoneAlarm not installed, so can't be the problem. And although I use Firefox as my browser I can access the internet just fine with IE7.

There is a known problem with M$'s last update hosing ZoneAlarm and causing problems accessing the internet. ZoneAlarm has an update patch on it's website to fix M$'s error.
