I have a few relatives living at great distances, whom I trust
implicitly, and who would like to be able to view and work on one
central database with me. I have used intellishare for some time but
am frustrated by the amount of work required to merge (and retain
sourcing from all parties), the time lag required to obtain cds from
others and then merge and get cds back to other people, etc.

I have played with on line databases, and found them inadequate, in
some cases excruciatingly slow, and in one case, Ancestry snagged my
database (thus I am getting all kinds of emails from people asking me
to reply and open access to my files...even tho I specifically marked
the file as private).

I have been thinking that there has to be a way around this problem.
I do have a website host, and tons of room where I can upload files.
My family members all know my website address and user password (in
case I die or something happened to me). Has anyone ever simply
uploaded their Legacy data & picture folders into their website files
and then allowed other family members to download files to work on
them?

I already have a system for knowing who contributed what picture or
source document. (My pics all are in the 10000 series by subject, my
sister uses 20000, my dad 30000, etc.) If Legacy had User name and
passwords to log in...could this identify who made the entries &
sources in a file?

I am thinking the only issue might be if family members all wanted to
work on the file at the same time...but there must be a way around
that one too.

Would this work?
Allison
