Michelle, Drag and Drop works very will. Use the Split Screen view, with each file showing, then drag a person from one file and drop him on the same person on the other file. (Legacy merge works very well, and preserves links. It is easier to leave your husband on both files, then merge.) You will be asked who you want to import in addition to the one you moved, and you have several options.

Use another copy of both files to experiment with, and if it doesn't work you can just dump the result.

Legacy often has several ways to do something, one of it's great strengths.
