Kate,

Please read the Legacy User Group Etiquette Guidelines. You'll find a link
to them at the bottom of every email. Attachments are a particular problem
because of virus issues as well as the fact that many of our listers are on
slow dial-up connections or pay by the minute for downloading email.

You broke two of the guidelines in one message!

"Format
Please only send messages in plain text format, because:

1. HTML format messages require more server space for archiving than plain
text messages.
2. HTML messages can hide viruses.
3. HTML messages will increase a message's Spam rating by Spam blocking
software.
4. It takes longer for persons with dial-up connections to download HTML
messages.
5. Some older e-mail readers display HTML messages by including hypertext
code, which makes them hard to read.
6. Some people with visual impairment may have difficulty reading messages
with colored text or tinted backgrounds.

"For help with sending in messages in plain text format, please visit
http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/listadmins/plaintext.html.

"Do not send attachments of any kind. Because viruses can hide in
attachments, don't open any Legacy Users Group message that has one."

Thanks for using Legacy.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Source detail craziness

Help!
I recently converted a Legacy 6.0 file to Legacy 7.0 and enthusiastically
began using the new Source Writer tool. After a bit, I realized that the
source citations using 7.0 would not export correctly to a GEDCOM 5.5 file
(a different issue - details too complicated to explain here). So I set my
customization option to always use the basic source system, then recreated
the master sources that had been created using Source Writer and deleted the
Source Writer generated sources.

In an individual's record, I cited the newly created (basic source system)
Master source, then added detail appropriate to the record. So far, so
good.

However, when I reviewed the source list for all individuals using that
source, the detail field was incorrect - sort of. In the source citation
listing for an individual, the detail column shows the correct information,
but the Output section of the screen, showing footnote and reference output
to be printed is incorrect and does not correspond to what's in the detail
column.

To make matters worse, the source detail that is exported to a GEDCOM from
Legacy is the Output detail, not the information contained in the detail
column. (My client is using FTM 16 and won't move to Legacy but I prefer
Legacy for data cleaning.) When exported to FTM using the GEDCOM 5.5
settings in Legacy, source detail is totally fubar (See example 4 in the
.pdf I've attached to make this all clearer.)

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I don't want to go forward using Legacy
7.0 for my data cleaning if I can't export back to FTM via GEDCOM, and I
can't do what I want to in FTM both 16 and 2008(ugh!).
Thanks for your help.
