(You must have the Highlight Living individuals option selected also on the Customize > Data Format tab.) A "½" at the beginning of a child's name means that person is a half-sibling to the children of the current husband and wife. (A half-sibling only has the husband OR the wife as a parent, not both of them. The other parent is from a previous marriage.)
