I have had to bite the bullet... with 17,000 names because the clean up takes me longer than the manual entry... set FTM beside the legacy and just type away... at same time find things need to further work on that person also because I started many years ago with FTM and didn't at first put all things in correctly but each persons tree is different...If you have 10 people you will have 14 ways to process that tree... -0700 Vicki: Re-entering 9300 records would be terribly time-consuming and unnecessary. Go ahead and make the transfer from FTM to Legacy, then for your initial file cleanup I'd suggest making use of the Master Lists (View > Master Lists). From there you can clean up your surname and location inconsistencies. Also check View > Tree Finder (Refresh with each use) which will show if you have disconnected individuals. Run a Potential Problems report; from that screen you can go directly to the individual record and correct or override as appropriate. After you've done those things then tackle the individual records and sources, either tagging as you go or tagging all and untagging those that have been cleaned. To clean up sources right now, you'd have to create new citations individually using SourceWriter templates. There's a source conversion tool in development, but I'm not sure how it would work with source data entered originally in FTM. Those of us who want EE-style source formats are doing manual conversions. I was planning to bite the bullet and enter each person separately into Legacy, but that would be a long and tedious job. There was some pretty good advice on importing a gedcom and then cleaning up the files afterward. I am thinking that maybe this is the way to go. A couple of questions...If I import a gedcom, how would I use the Source Writer to clean up the sources as I entered them into Family Tree Maker. The training videos show how to enter sources from scratch and how to cite them once they're entered. But how would I clean up existing imported sources?Does anyone have a good procedure for cleaning up files? Someone suggested using Tag #9 as a "cleaned" tag, which is a good idea. Someone else suggested use of a temp file, but I'''m not sure what I would do with the temp file. With so many people to "clean up", I really would like some suggestions.Thank You!Vicki ** $10 OFF when you spend $50 or more in our store.=0A Use coupon code: =*!Legacy2008=*" at checkout.
