One additional thought on that, Gary, if you are using Outlook Express, when you empty the Deleted Item folder it DOES NOT empty. It just hides it.
Every couple of days I delete "Deleted Items.dbx" which is located at C:\Documents and Settings\Arthur\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{F493B78F-0182-467D-9C9D-975D0C9B5E27}\Microsoft\Outlook\Deleted Items.dbx I deleted it last night and when I look at it now it has everything that I deleted all day, and is a 1.25 meg file although, since I make a practice of emptying it and it now shows only one 15K file. It is a hidden file in a hidden folder, so you need to know how to access it. I use a special program called Z-Tree - never used the windows file manager. I just closed OE, deleted the file, which can only be done when OE is closed, restarted OE and it created a new file, now 76.5K. Anybody that has never deleted it will probably find it is huge. Here are a few things you can do that will have a much bigger effect. Run the Disk Cleanup utility and let it compact files. There are a couple of free programs that help eliminate superfluous stuff, and do so a lot more safely. One is CleanUp! at http://www.stevengould.org/ and another is CCleaner at http://www.ccleaner.com/ Then run the disk defragmenter. If you use Internet Explorer, make sure you reduce the default settings for temporary Internet files to something reasonable like 60-90 MB (found under Tools, Internet Options. Properly uninstall any unnecessary software you have installed. Review any stored emails and delete ones you no longer need to save and especially ones that have file attachments you no longer need, then empty the deleted items folder so they are fully gone Offload large files such as multimedia, especially video files, to a portable hard drive. Computers do not run well with less than 10% (preferably 20%) free space. If those things don't help enough, it is probably time to think about a new laptop or replacing the hard drive for a larger capacity (although laptops are more difficult to clone over). There are several under Legacy that I want to know if they can be removed somehow. They are Legacy1 through Legacy 11.dbm Legacy 6.chm and .ing Legacy5 and 6.lic several trn files Under Pub Center Examples there are several foreign languages. Can these be safe fully removed? How? Just delete? Is there anything else that I don't need or might not need?
