Has anyone written up a short Cliff-Notes-type primer for using OpenOffice with the Legacy database?

I want to do a very simple report ... sort of a variation on the Event Report ... asked for this years ago, but it never got on the programmers' radar, so I want to give it a try myself.

Here's what it would look like ...

    Date Event Name RIN

01/01/1900 Birth Uncle John 278
08/31/1925 Marriage Uncle John 278
08/31/1925 Marriage Aunt Ruth 619
06/15/1927 Birth Cousin Joe 687
06/17/1927 Death Grandpa Jim 115

I'd like the ability to select a date range ... even more useful would be the usual report selection criteria by focus group or tags, etc.

Why? For things like all the birth/marriage/death events over a date span. Or a list of all my cousins sorted by birth/marriage/death. Or for research ... "Aunt Ruth, I see that you gave birth to Cousin Joe just two days before Grandpa Jim died. Were you able to attend the funeral?"

And ... please ... no lectures about backups or using copies, etc ... I worked in the trenches of Data Processing from 1967 (not a typo) until 1996 ... long before it morphed into Information Technology.

I'd appreciate any help ... I've read what I could find in the LUG archives ... and found the OO help files rather dense.

Thanks

Bob Bashford
