It's probably not much comfort to the OP, but I *have* been able to
reproduce this.
It seemed to start at the Fifth Generation. I changed to a
non-proportional front to get a more accurate idea of what was
occurring. My counting may not be entirely accurate, but the full line
length seems to be set at about 74 characters, but I have these short
first lines occurring with 56, 63 and 55 characters. In those instances
a space and the next word would have taken up only 6, 7 and 5 characters
respectively so there was plenty of room to carry on the first line for
at least one further word. On another occasion the line break comes
after the 60th character and falls between a person's name and the
superscript for generation number!
This is definitely a bug.
