Jennifer, I just leave the field blank. This doesn't cause any problems on screen or in reports, and in the normal Name List, all the people without surnames show at the top of the list. Boyd

In a previous program, I would put two slashes (//) in the surname field, but when I do this in Legacy it warns me about adding symbols. What is advised: leave the field blank, use "unknown"? Any suggestions?
