Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give them a try as well. Nancy ----- Original Message ----- From: RICHARD SCHULTHIES To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Sent: Wednesday, January 06, 2010 12:33 PM Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Search or report criteria help
If all census sources are named with the same pattern, ''YYYY Census place.jpg' they are near each other in the Master list, but if done 'Census YYYY place', all the census will be together in year order, instead of intrmixed with YYYY directories and YYYY tax lists; but I actually have done my master list 'place YYYY Census'. I had this set up before SourceWriter existed. Now to the answer. When you look at the Master Source List, it should be sorted by date order (per your plan). If you tag the sources you want, then unchoose and choose the Tag button, only those tagged will show up. OR, if you go to search and use Individual; Event-Name; Not Equal To; space bar; will give ALL people that have any event(s). Another choice could be Individual; Event-Name; Contains; Census will find ALL correctly labeled Census records and maybe some wrong ones that have census anyway. I actually stepped over the last word in this sentence. "I used this file for residence, occupation, birth place etc. event." I hope this gives you ideas on how to use this tool. As an example, I assign the event, "Residence" to an individual and fill in info, assign the "Source" to this event as 1900 Fed Census. I attach the image file "1900 Census ST Banner.jpg" with it's transcription as the "Detail". I copy this Event/Source and use it for any other individuals that may be listed in his family. What I am asking, is it possible to get a report/search list of people attached to all census image files used in this manner? So, I'd like a list of all people attached to "1900 Census ST Banner.jpg". Thank you, Nancy ----- Original Message ----- From: RICHARD SCHULTHIES To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Sent: Tuesday, January 05, 2010 11:14 PM Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Search or report criteria help First, define what a file is. Are you meaning a Legacy database file, or a source file, or an event file? Your file as named sounds like a combination of a source and and event, but is probably a document turned into a photocopy. If it is a sourrce then it is real easy. Find the Master Source List. When on the source list, highlight the correct source. On the right side there are choices. Pick the one called show list. All people using it will be listed. If it an Event, go to the icon called search (picture of magnifying glass). Choose Individual, Event-Name, Equal to, then in what to look for put "1900 Census ST Banner.jpg". If I am not understanding you, could you ask the question using Legacy 'verbiage'. For example, I have a file called 1900 Census ST Banner.jpg. I would like a listing of those individuals attached to this file. I used this file for residence, occupation, birth place etc. event. I kind of wandered around the Picture Center but didn't really see such an option. I don't use it normally.
