Ron raises a very good point here, using UK records, I understand that the
question asked by the census taker was, 'how old were you last birthday?'
So where ever possible, it pays to verify the age stated from the
Registration Index at either www.freebmd.org.uk or the Ancestry database.
I always start with a search using + or - 2 years, then I extend this to a
five year search or more in the case of adults.
Names stated on the census cannot be taken as 'gospel' either, as in several
cases I have found the given names have been reversed in the census.
Happy hunting!
Carolyn
